SPLIT
Pietro Bongiana and Silvia Codato of the Bongiana Architetture studio have designed a product that plays with the negative and enhances an element that we normally try to minimise: the joint.
Split tiles are marked by a groove (diagonal or straight) that runs along the surface, dividing it into two sections.
Once laid, the groove is filled with a coloured grout and becomes part of a drawing that includes the joints between each unit. This creates a pattern that, depending on whether the groove is diagonal or lengthwise, creates a rhythmic line motif.
Split is available in two versions: one rough and rustic, the other precise and sharp. The two solutions give Split an archaic or elegant appearance respectively and, combined with special treatments, make the tile suitable for cladding all surfaces, from flooring to those involving contact with food.
